Walking in Valhalla Week #4: The South Downs Way
chaos mushrooms + some exciting project development news...
Last weeks’ stream, Brighton to Jorvik was glorious, glitched-to-the-max, chaos- around 30mins into the stream, strange sounds began emanating from some yellow mushrooms and after repeatedly losing sound in the stream, my console crashed, meaning I had to keep restarting again…and then again, and again…
It took me 3 livestreams and almost 3 hours to reach Jorvik (big love to those who stuck around!), and whilst it was a relief to finally make it to my destination, this walk was far from the relaxing online amble I intended it to be! The day of the stream, I’d been working in London, and was very tired when I got home, so finishing my day with a 3 hour stream probably wasn’t the best way to wind down.
But there was some great scenery on the way:
I intended to do a stream this week, but unfortunately caught some horrid bug which has had me more or less confined to bed for a few days now. I’m a little more on my feet today so thought I would do an update here now I have the energy to do something that requires more brain power than binge-watching Narcos and inhaling Olbas oil!
Lightform Residency 2023
I’m delighted to say that earlier this week I found out I’ll be one of a group of artists returning to take part in a second Lightform Lab residency at The Old Market Theatre: a residency that allows artists to develop work using some pretty cool projection-mapping software and hardware, that I took part in for the first time last January. I’m really excited to be invited back to work on a new project with this equipment. Here’s some information about previous Lightform Labs. More updates on this very soon, as it starts in early March.
This coming Thursday evening, after much researching and wandering around the Assassins Creed Valhalla map, I realised it was time to walk the South Downs Way: a popular 100 mile walk across the South Downs from Winchester to Eastbourne, and one of the few popular walks that’s possible to replicate in this video game’s slightly wonky geography. It may involve a short river swim half way through, but let’s see.
I’ve never walked the South Downs Way IRL, and doubt I ever will to be honest, so this might be the closest I get. Next week I am getting my specially-made orthotics fitted, and I’m really looking forward to how this could alleviate some of my mobility issues so I can enjoy walks once more. (Also next week, I turn 40!)
